Mumbai (ABC Live) Five day long Shilpotsav is on at Expo Centre, World Trade Complex, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai. The daily timings of the Exhibition are from10 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.
Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has been organizing Shilpotsav at Dilli Haat for the last 5 years. During the recently concluded Shilpotsav- 2011 on 17th September, 2011, the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Mr. Mukul Wasnik had announced that similar Shilpotsavs would be held in big cities of the country. The Mumbai Shilpotsav-2012 has been organised by the Ministry as a follow-up to Mr. Wasnik’s announcement.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Smt. Sangita Gairola, Special Secretary of the Ministry yesterday. Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Government of Maharashtra, CMDs/MDs of all National level Corporations under the Ministry were also present on the occasion.
The exhibition is held in a hall of 15000 sq.ft., which has been converted into 75 stalls. The stalls have been allotted to the Artisans who are beneficiaries of Corporations working under the Ministry for different socially deprived sections of the society.
These Corporations are National Scheduled Castes Finance & Development Corporation, National Backward Classes Finance & Development Corporation, National Handicapped Finance & Development Corporation & National Safai Karamchari Finance & Development Corporation. In all, 58 participants from all over the country are taking part. The beneficiaries are given stalls for display and selling of their handicraft products, such as silk sarees, carpets, durries, imitation jewelry, wooden handicrafts, stone carving, brass metal work, leather articles etc.
National Trust working for welfare of persons with autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and multiple disabilities is also participating in the exhibition and NGOs working under them are displaying their products.
Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO) has put up stall displaying various equipments being manufactured by them for persons with disabilities. Other National Institutions working under the MOSJ&E, for persons various disabilities are actively giving all the information regarding their work to the visitors.
